Rediscovering the Self: A Journey to Soulful Authenticity

In a world obsessed with achievement, performance, and external success, it’s easy to lose touch with who we truly are. On this week’s episode of Personal Development Mastery, host Agi Keramidas sits down with transformational coach and spiritual teacher Grace Najean, who shares her powerful story of self-reclamation and spiritual awakening. Drawing from her years as a master coach with Tony Robbins and her own deep inner work, Grace offers profound insights into what it means to lead and live from a place of presence and soulful authenticity.

From High Performance to Inner Purpose

Grace Najean’s career began in the world of high performance. As a Tony Robbins coach for eight years, she worked with elite leaders and top performers, guiding them to success by conventional standards. But despite her achievements, Grace encountered a moment of reckoning that changed everything.

During a values exercise at a Tony Robbins event, Grace discovered that the driving force behind her ambition was a desire to make her late parents proud. This revelation shocked her. Her parents had passed away 15 years earlier, and she suddenly realised she was still living according to values that no longer served her. It was a turning point that prompted her to make a bold decision: to live from her own voice, not someone else’s expectations.

A Heart Chakra Awakening

Not long after that decision, Grace experienced what she later understood to be a heart chakra awakening during a meditation session. The experience was deeply unsettling at first. Coming from a corporate background, she had no previous connection to meditation or spirituality. Her sudden shift led her to become vegan, embrace spiritual practices, and ultimately commit to a path of deep inner transformation.

Over the years, Grace immersed herself in a variety of spiritual disciplines, from Vipassana and Transcendental Meditation to working with Dr Joe Dispenza. Through daily meditation, often for hours at a time, she cultivated presence, trust, and a sense of flow in her life. This inward journey eventually gave birth to her signature Soul Fluence Method, a holistic framework that integrates biological, neurological, and spiritual transformation.

Self-Leadership Before Leadership

One of the core themes of the episode is the concept of self-leadership. Grace emphasises that many outwardly successful leaders are suffering internally because they’ve spent their lives serving others — their teams, their families, their companies — without first connecting to themselves. They reach a point where, despite their achievements, they feel unfulfilled and disconnected.

Grace works with such clients to return to the basics: discovering who they truly are, identifying what brings them joy, and mastering the self before attempting to lead others. She highlights that the modern emphasis on “authentic leadership” is impossible to fulfil if one does not first understand their own authentic self.

Blind Spots Among the Spiritually Aware

Interestingly, even those who are already on a spiritual path are not immune to blind spots. According to Grace, one of the most common pitfalls is a lack of discipline or consistency. Just like elite athletes or professional musicians must practice rigorously, those on a journey of self-mastery must develop a daily commitment to their growth. Grace points to her own past as a concert pianist and her daughter's career as a tennis player to illustrate the importance of sustained, focused effort.

She encourages leaders to adopt daily routines that align body, mind, and soul — a trifecta she believes is essential for integrated living. Whether it’s through movement, mindful breathing, or conscious reflection, regular practice is the bridge between insight and transformation.

The Power of Better Questions

Another key takeaway from the conversation is the importance of asking empowering questions. Grace reminds us that the quality of our questions directly shapes the quality of our lives. Instead of asking “Why did this happen to me?” she suggests reframing with questions like “What is the lesson here?” or “How can this serve me?”

She also advises people to investigate the origin of their inner voice. Often, the questions we ask ourselves are not even our own. They are inherited from parents, teachers, or society. The first step to reclaiming our minds, she says, is to discern whether our thoughts are truly ours — and if not, to replace them with ones that serve our growth.

Simple Practices to Reconnect with Your Inner Self

For those who feel too busy or overwhelmed to start a spiritual practice, Grace offers two powerful yet simple techniques. The first is a visual countdown: closing your eyes and counting backwards from 50 to 1 while visualising each number. This exercise gives the mind a break and cultivates focus. The second is breathing: inhaling and exhaling evenly for six seconds each, using the diaphragm and maintaining an upright posture. Even just a few minutes of this daily can bring significant shifts in awareness and calm.

Stepping Into Soulful Leadership

Grace now offers her work through private coaching, immersive retreats, and a signature year-long programme called 777. This begins with a 7-day retreat in Lombok, followed by 7 weeks of group integration and 7 months of one-to-one coaching. It is designed to help leaders not only experience transformation but maintain it as they return to their everyday lives.

Her message is clear: true leadership starts within. It is not selfish to focus on oneself — it is a duty. By nurturing our inner world, we become more equipped to impact the outer world in meaningful and lasting ways.
